No. 22 ranked men’s tennis took on no. 23 ranked Pepperdine University on Saturday, April 16, coming out on top 4-1 after a hard fought battle. Head coach Ryan Keckley was thrilled with the grit and determination his team showed on the court.

A group of female athletes at San Diego State University launched a lawsuit against the university, alleging Title IX violations with regard to differences in financial aid. The athletes are mostly former members of SDSU’s women’s rowing team, which was cut by the school in 2020.

Although the pandemic has mostly faded into the background for most athletes, some are still feeling the effects of getting sick. Senior Lauren Turner of the USD Volleyball team had her collegiate career upended by the aftermath of COVID, and is figuring out how to transition from athletics into her next passion.

USD men’s and women’s rowing competed in the San Diego Crew Classic regatta on Saturday and Sunday, March 26 and 27. The race was the first major race of the season for both teams, and captains Drew Paulsen and Isla Blake are excited about the rest of the season.

Men’s and women’s tennis both extended their current winning streaks against West Coast Conference opponents as both teams went 3-0 in conference. The baseball team registered their first sweep of the season, and softball and golf competed on the road.

First-year Shannon Burns arrived at USD in the fall hoping to play her favorite sport from high school: pickleball. She was surprised to learn that there was no pickleball team at USD, and made it her mission to bring the sport to campus.

USD Baseball is 18 games into the season and local sophomore first baseman Kevin Sim is turning heads. A lot of hard work in the offseason has paid off for Sim, who currently leads the WCC in home runs, including one in the series win over Pepperdine last weekend.

While many students rested or went on vacation during spring break, the work didn’t stop for USD athletes. Men’s and women’s tennis played in key matches against UCLA and Princeton, baseball played in their first road series against Grand Canyon University, and softball hosted the San Diego Tournament at the USD Softball complex.
