Brandon Moore named head of USD football

Associate Vice President and Executive Director Bill McGillis announced  on Wednesday, April, 19, that former Colorado School of Mines head coach Brandon Moore will become the new head coach for USD football. The news comes just one month after the program was involved in some controversy regarding previous head coach Dale Lindsey’s debated retirement.

LA sports & entertainment trek

With the LA sun shining and a hip-hop beat blaring, 29 students received the opportunity to run out of the Los Angeles’ Rams gameday tunnel and onto the SoFi Stadium field. USD’s Career Development Center (CDC) took a group of students on a Torero Trek to meet representatives with the Anaheim Ducks and SoFi Stadium. I was also able to attend  in order to cover and participate in the Trek.

It was that time of the month — a “Nothing Bundt Feminism” event all about periods and sustainability. Several students — including one male — attended the “Dinner and Dialogue on Period Equity” program held on April 19 at the Women’s Commons, in collaboration with the Office of Sustainability.

San Diego beaches play a large role in the lives of locals in the form of recreational activities, like fishing or surfing, and also are a large contributor to the tourism economy. Polluted urban runoff impairs San Diegans and tourists ability to enjoy outdoor spaces.

The state of the Valley

The Valley, one of the residence areas for a large portion of USD first-years and sophomores, has faced many challenges this spring semester, from construction on the Wellness Center, a 24-hour power outage, blocked pathways and broken elevators. Another notable problem in the Valley is the large sinkhole that has formed in the garden behind Mata’yuum Crossroads.

2023 has proven to be a year filled with monumental pop culture moments for India. From winning  ‘Best Original Song’ for ‘Naatu Naatu’ and ‘Best Documentary Short’ for ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ at the Oscars to creating history with Diljit Dosanjh, an Indian singer, becoming the first Punjabi artist to perform at this year’s Coachella, the country has taken over international news since the beginning of the year. But one of the biggest strides India has made has been in the fashion industry.

Women’s sports have become the new face of the University of San Diego, from USD volleyball going to the Final Four to the Women’s basketball team ready to make a deep run in the tournament. Ayanna (Yahya) Khalfani, senior guard on the women’s basketball team, made huge strides from last season to the current season.
