1770s fashion finally makes its return

What are all the designers calling fierce this season? A throwback to the ’70s. And when we say ’70s, we mean 1770s. Ruffles, corsets, and petticoats are back in, and they have never looked better.
For the women, it might be an adjustment from the skinny jeans and flowing tops we are used to wearing. Michael Kors’ issued a statement last week proclaiming this new wave of fashion as “bold, a look that hasn’t been seen in centuries, and one that you will see a lot of next season on ‘Project Runway.’ He is rumoredly designing a dress for Heidi Klum that he has named “The Marie,” aptly inspired by the one and only Marie Antoinette. Other accessories that one should look out for are wide hoops to go underneath these skirts. If they aren’t at least three feet out on all sides, what’s the point?
Also, ladies, start practicing that pompadour. If necessary, invest in a wig. It will make your outfit look more than tres chic. This look is going to be hot, hot, HOT for this spring.
While the women have more of an inspiration from France, men should be taking a cue from the likes of Ben Franklin and George Washington, circa the Revolutionary War. This is a rugged look and not to be taken lightly.
If necessary, carry some gunpowder in those breeches you will be sporting. Hair for the men, however is a toss-up. For more formal occasions, try out the wig, it will give an air of sophistication, and give people the impression of, “yes, I do look good, thank you kindly sir.”
However, on a regular basis, throw that hair in a low ponytail. It’s chic, it’s easy and it’s fashionable. But do not forget the powder, or the look will be ruined.
How long will this trend last? Style experts agree that it could be one season, but if the look takes off, more throwback era styles could be seen in future seasons. Some even predict that the medieval period may come out to play next winter.
If that’s the case, be prepared to go up and down in the feudal system, because every look will be coming back, from “Peasant Posh,” “Handmaiden Chic,” and even a spin on the “Derelict Beggar” look. These looks are going to be must-haves in everyone’s closet, so don’t miss out. “Haute Couture” has never been hotter!
