Hipster Blip Blog Alt-ness

As a writer I am fascinated by blogs. Each one is unique and creative etc. But only a select few are noteworthy and worth checking every day. Hipster Runoff is one of those blogs.
Hipster Runoff is a blog belonging to a guy who claims that his name is Carles (which is kind of too odd to believe). In his blog he basically mocks the essence of the “hipster,” which apparently has a negative connotation these days.
Carles refers to hipsters as “Alts,” implying that their life goal is to be an alternative cool individual and develop a personal brand, meaning a calculated image of themselves that they create so people see them as a hipster.
Every type of person, no matter their color, nationality or gender, can be an Alt. And all of these special groups get nicknames too!
The “AltBro” has a pretty obvious meaning. They have the essence of the “bro” but the goals of the Alt. The “AltBag” is a hipster douchebag. My personal favorite, solely for the absolute silliness of the phonetics of the word, is the “Blipster,” a black hipster.
The most recent posts have been about Mark the Cobrasnake, party photog “extraordinaire” and his status as an AltBro and an AltBag because his photos suck and he’s contributing to the overwhelming hipster population.
I’ll pause for a second to explain what a hipster is exactly. Some people generalize hipsters as kids that shop at Urban Outfitters and American Apparel and listen to “indie” music. That is not true.
A hipster is someone that tries really really hard to let people know that they shop at Urban Outfitters and American Apparel and listen to bands such as Justice and MGMT and Steve Aoki. They make sure to attend every show solely to brag about it.
What’s sad about this is that they are so obsessed with their personal brand that they can’t enjoy the moment. They dress for Cobrasnake pics in hopes they will end up on his website in their thrift store and American Apparel outfit while smoking a cig. They should take a moment to enjoy the music and wear jeans and a t-shirt.
Life’s not as bad as they pretend that it is and Urban and AA are too expensive to base an entire wardrobe on. Check out the blog: hipsterrunoff.com.
P.S. I really miss my cat. K thx bye.
