Lance Rodriguez, a Clovis California native, is a singer/songwriter navigating his way through the music industry. At 24 years old, music has always been a part of Rodriguez’s life as he’s been playing guitar, songwriting and performing since he was an 11-year-old looking up to ACDC’s Angus Young. The release of his first album Imperfections had tracks like “Bloom” and “Only Life” which contained images of the Central Valley where he was born. He speaks on relying on feel when putting his music together, this personal approach can be heard within his lyrics. The process of making his first project was a “team effort” as he describes it, this is something Rodriguez stands by and incorporates in his collaborations. Relationships play an important role as he says “being a fan of the music” plays an important role for him when he decides to work with another artist. Having released 5 song projects since he was 16, Lance describes the past couple years, especially 2019, as years of growth. Releasing only one single title Currents in 2019, the business aspect of music has become a focus for the artist. “I think a lot of times we release a ton of music as artists and we put a lot of time and money invested into that and we don’t always understand how that ROI comes back”. With business being handled, Rodriguez speaks on authenticity and how that’s reflected in his work. As a performer, he has a saying “live never lies”, which implies that if the music doesn’t reflect the artist, people can see that.
Signing with an agent, growing his team and finding the right producer are Lance’s main focuses. Having done music for a while now, Lance offers what i wish i knew then, that i know now advice to other up and coming artists. From his past experiences; he says taking realistic steps and understanding the business aspect of the music industry are important things he wishes he knew. Lastly, collaborating and forming a team early on is something he says he should’ve done earlier. With about 40 unreleased songs, Lance Rodriguez is someone the San Diego music scene should look out for.
