Shannon Cajka- Residence Hall Association President.
Q: What is RHA?
The RHA is an organization that advocates for residents, plans events and works to improve the overall on campus living experience. We host a variety of events every year that include free fun and free food. For example, BBQs, movie nights, laser tag events, broomball, bowling, faculty vs. student softball, battle of the bands, winter wonderland, game nights, dances etc.
Q: When does RHA meet?
We meet on Tuesday nights: Executive board from 7-8:45 pm. Each hall council at 9 pm.
Q: What kind of people are drawn to be members of RHA?
Students who really want to get involved on campus right away, enjoy planning fun events, feel drawn to advocating for issues and who want leadership experience join RHA.
Q: How did you become the president of RHA?
It was a two part process. A paper application and an interview with the advisor and members of the executive board.
Q: What are your duties as President?
As RHA President I run the weekly executive board meetings, hold office hours, help plan events, advocate for resident issues, advise a hall council and serve as a RHA liaison to other clubs and organizations on campus and in the community.
Q: What are some upcoming events?
Winter Wonderland is our big event at the end of the first semester, which includes 12 tons of snow that we bring to campus along with other fun holiday activities like cookie decorating, hot cocoa, pictures with Santa, stocking decorating, sledding, etc.
Scott Novak- The Marketing Club President.
Q: What is The Marketing Club all about? ?
Essentially, we are a consulting firm and we want to help people get involved in the marketing world by exposing them to its different aspects through professional speakers and project work.? Right now we’re doing a lot of work on campus, including a project with Torero Athletics and Career Services, but we’re also involved off-campus with our Fiji Yogurt project. Kyle Miholich, the owner and founder of Fiji Yogurt, is a recent USD alum and has been great for us to work with [because we are] a relatively new club.
Q: How did you become the president of Marketing?
There were about 6 students interested in starting the club back up, and I was the only non-senior. Everyone did this “Well who could do it?” kind of thing and looked in my direction. So it kind of landed in my lap, but I’m glad that it did because it’s been a great experience for me.
Q: What are your duties as President?
I pretty much run the meetings and confer with our faculty advisor, Dr. Tim Becker, to make sure we’re on the right path and doing what we’re supposed to. I’d like to say that I do more than that, but I have a great executive board that does a lot of work behind the scenes to make everything run smoothly.
Q: Do you have any events coming up?
We meet every other Thursday and there’s actually a meeting October 9 at 12:15 in Olin 225. One of our long term goals is to host a business Expo” where any student who has their own business can come showcase it to the school. It can be anything from their own T-Shirt company, designing their own jewelry, making music in a band or making skateboards or surfboards. We’re planning it for sometime in the Spring so if you know anyone who does that sort of thing, please help us spread the word.
Q: Anything else you would like to add about The Marketing Group?
Join my club!
Kaitlin Perry- The Music Group (an extension of The Concert Committee) Vice President of Blogging.
Q: What is TMG?
Our club is about anything and everything music. From show reviews to album reviews to basic rants, we post all types of things on the blog (themusicgroup.wordpress.com).?
Q: When do you meet?
We pick a concert of the month that all members can attend together and organize rides for. We don’t have a set meeting time yet since we’re kind of figuring out what days are best, but they are usually every other Tuesday or Wednesday.
Q: What kind of people are drawn to TMG?
I think that the kind of people that are drawn to this club are people that want to share new music with other people that might not be exposed to it.
Q: Anything else we should know about TMG?
Join it! It’s the easiest way to get your writing and photography seen on campus.”
