San Diego culture scene

This week’s coffee adventure led me not too far from campus. The Living Room Coffee house is by far one of the best coffee shops in San Diego. While it has various locations in San Diego, two of which are particularly close to USD, it is by no means another cookie-cutter coffee chain.

The Living Room started off just as a “ma and pa” shop located by San Diego State University, but it has expanded to five shops all committed to serving the best coffee, tea and food in town. Each location is unique and offers delicious sandwiches, salads, pastries and cakes.

If you aren’t a coffee aficionado, try The Living Room’s amazing selection of cakes and tarts. For coffee drinkers, both traditional and more unique drinks are served, I would recommend the Café Svizzera or the Iced Bomb Alaska.

The two shops closest to USD are located in Old Town and Point Loma. Many people favor the shop in Old Town, situated in an old house on San Diego Avenue. This main street location is exciting and energetic because it is bustling with students, tourists and local San Diegans. The Living Room in Old Town is especially nice during the evening hours with ample porch lighting for studying or conversation.

My personal favorite is in Point Loma, situated inside a Victorian home. This location is the quieter of the two since it is in a residential area. The patio and porch are much bigger than the Old Town locale, but unless you get there early enough most of the outdoor seating tends to be taken.

Take some time to visit The Living Room in Old Town or Point Loma, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
