Student fractures neck after struck by another student’s car

A 25-year-old male student fractured his neck after being struck by another student’s car while crossing the street Monday night near the West entrance to the University of San Diego, officials said.
The collision occurred around 7 p.m. Monday at the intersection of the Linda Vista Road and Marian Way, according to USD Department of Public Safety Chief James Miyashiro.
The victim walked across Linda Vista Road with the walk-signal on and was hit by the 2009 Smart car as it turned right onto the same road, according to San Diego police officer John Buttle.
The driver of the Smart car, a 20-year-old man, did not see the victim crossing the street, Buttle said.
The victim fractured his neck — the C6 vertebrae — from the collision and was transported to a local hospital by paramedics, according to Buttle. The driver of the car was not injured.
As of Tuesday morning, the victim is no longer at the hospital and is recovering, according to Miyashiro.
Both USD DPS and San Diego Police Department responded to the incident, which briefly closed down the east-bound side of Linda Vista Road Monday night.
The investigation is ongoing.
