Letter from an editor

Typically the Editor-in-Chief of The USD Vista writes a letter from the editor at the end of the academic year. Our Editor-in-Chief, Celina Tebor, is unable to do that at this time. She currently still is, and always will be, our trusted Editor-in-Chief. I would like to note that she is the bravest and strongest leader I have had the pleasure to work with.

Where has the time gone?

Time flies in college, especially when it’s packed with busy classes, internships, social events, sports games, and friends to enjoy it all with. One day it’s the first year, and the next it’s somehow senior year, and college is about to come to a close. As the USD juniors soon finish finals and approach their senior year, The USD Vista wanted to gain insight into this impending and exciting transition.

Reflecting on the pandemic, one year later

I remember the first time I ever heard of the coronavirus. I was sitting in the Atlanta International Airport on my way back from an intersession study abroad program in Jamaica. My dad called me and asked if I’d seen any news about the newest virus. I had seen the alert on the USD homepage but didn’t think much of it. Every few years there had been reports of a new virus or disease that rapidly spread. Some reached the status of epidemic, while others faded out of the news quickly. Many people expected COVID-19 to fade just as the others did; I know I did. As I sat in the airport, I thought “that won’t impact me and my life. It will be fine.” But here we are a year later, still in the midst of a global pandemic.
