The 21st ranked women’s soccer team is coming off an impressive pair of wins from last past weekend. Both games were shutouts as the Toreros defeated UC Riverside 3-0 and Idaho State 6-0. With the wins, it extends their unbeaten record to nine, including two ties.

Three different Toreros scored in a game against UC Riverside at home Friday night. Christine Mock would score the first goal of the match in the 42nd minute of the match. This would come off an assist from Natalie Vinti. The second goal would come from Jen Mello who received a pass from Natalie Garcia and would find the back of the net. Addie Cartan would score the final goal of the game in the 88th minute, pushing the Toreros margin of victory to three.

This was senior goalie Brittany Cameron’s third game in a posting a shutout.

“We just go out there and work hard everyday in practice. We do not care who we play that week, a top ranked team or not, we prepare hard for every game so we can go out and perform,” Cameron said. Performing well is something the women’s soccer team has been doing all year.

The Toreros would then take action Sunday against Idaho State where they capitalized on a variety of shots and scored goals from four different players. The Toreros Jen Mello scored half of all the goals in the game with her first goal coming in the 2nd minute of the match. Jackie Zinke would get a pass from Allison Wolters and get another goal in the 10th minute. The Toreros would score one more time before the half on a goal from Maggie Maguire that would give the Toreros a 3-0 lead at the half. In the start of the second half, Mello would score the next two goals in the 63rd and 65th minute of play giving her a total of three goals on the day. Hallie Huston scored the final goal of the match on a pass from Maguire giving the Toreros their sixth goal of the match.

The Toreros women’s soccer team will return to action again Sunday, taking on the Bruins of UCLA at noon. The Bruins are ranked No. 3 in the nation and have tied teams twice, but have never lost a game.
